S136h Material Hardness Analysis

S136H is a plastic mold steel with high hardness characteristics. The material has a factory hardness of approximately HRC31-35 and can reach HRC48-52 after heat treatment. Vacuum heat treatment and cryogenic treatment can further improve the uniformity of hardness.

High hardness brings excellent wear resistance, suitable for injection molding of corrosive plastics such as PVC and PP. In high temperature environments, the material hardness retention rate exceeds 85%, effectively extending the service life of the mold. After polishing, the surface hardness can reach HRC54, effectively resisting the erosion of plastic melt.

The stability of material hardness is directly related to the heat treatment process. The use of secondary tempering process can eliminate internal stress and avoid hardness fluctuations. Nitriding treatment increases the surface hardness to HRC65 while maintaining the toughness of the substrate.

Q: How much hardness can S136H achieve with higher energy?

A: After nitriding treatment, the surface hardness can reach HRC65, and the substrate hardness is maintained in the range of HRC48-52.

Q: How to check if the hardness of the material meets the standard?

A: It is recommended to use a Rockwell hardness tester to test points at different parts of the mold to ensure that the hardness value does not fluctuate beyond HRC2.
